I will soon own (barring some unforeseen cockup) a couple of hundred acres in the country and am eager to construct my own private pistol and rifle range.
I've been 'googling' around and have come across some pretty decent resources (e.g. this site from the State of Minnesota: http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/destina.._practices.pdf) but am always searching for more ideas.
I've seen the NRA Range Sourcebook (http://www.nrahq.org/shootingrange/sourcebook.asp) and was wondering if it contains practical information for a guy like me or is it primarily a resource with more administrative and safety guidelines for gun clubs, etc. By practical information, I specifically mean detailed diagrams and layouts for berms, backstops, range design, etc.
Anybody have a copy or any experience using this NRA publication who can give me a better idea of the content before I plunk down my money and order a copy?
And feel free to share any other resources specific to range design and construction.
